  • On January 27, 2021, I published my final Participation in Government project to Medium. Not only did I really want to (because I felt it was extremely important), but I also felt it was the right time to encourage the people behind me–the Juniors and Sophomores–at my high school to get out and vote when their time came.

Now, in 2026, with what’s happening in our country right now–especially following the killings of American citizens Renee Good and Alex Pretti–it felt even more important to republish elsewhere. So I am.

This is the final project from Government that I submitted to my beloved homeroom & Government teacher, Mr. Bova. It is as it was found in 2021, links and all (so keep in mind: information shared, including those links, might be incorrect and/or broken five years later.)

My message to you now, five years later, is simple: Register to vote. Keep protesting. Keep peacefuly yelling at the rooftops to anyone who will listen about the injustices happening right now. Keep. At. It. We ALL have rights under The Constitution of this country for a reason, regardless of what ANY administration says.

  • “But I say all of this now because honestly, I’m worried about this. Things look like they’re going to be a little chaotic getting off the ground. Controlled chaos? Perhaps, probably? Okay, not really… it’s not great. Oh, well! Here goes nothing!”

“Knowing your worth is a lesson that can only be taught through many hard lessons. Facing the music like that is tough. But in dealing with complicated, awkward situations, you learn. That’s both the worst part and beauty of being human.”

This essay will appear among others in a future book, releasing at some point down the road. Stay tuned…

  • Having been raised as an Evangelical Christian, I still continue to practice parts of that faith despite the fact that I do not attend church anymore nor do I agree with a lot of the viewpoints the sect (or its main organization, The Alliance, holds).

I won’t get into what I believe and don’t believe nowadays, but what my faith over the years has taught me is to 1) forgive myself and others, and better myself when I do make a mistake; 2) recognize that a situation is too much and back away, and; 3) know my worth.

Knowing your worth is a lesson that can only be taught through many hard lessons. Facing the music like that is tough. But in dealing with complicated, awkward situations, you learn. That’s both the worst part and beauty of being human.

It’s important to remember, in those moments, you cannot control how others react and you can only control your own reactions. Wrong or right, mean or nice, they’re going to react how they react and that’s up to them. We’re all human, at the end of the day. Everything for you on your own timeline, not someone else’s (that’s a lesson I had to learn the hard way.)

Let it flow, communicate, things will work out. Remember your worth, and keep moving forward. And most of all, keep your head up.
